Aunt B’s Savory Soul is a homage to a beautiful woman by the name Bessie who I’m proud to call my mother.  Ever since I can remember as a child, my home was always filled with the wonderful aromas of homemade food, cakes and pies. I was always amazed by watching her cook every single meal or tantalizing dessert by memory and never by a recipe.  As a little girl I would assist her in the kitchen, but as I grew into a young lady, I would be out the kitchen before a pot of water started boiling to be honest.

I could always remember that my mother’s food was always in high demand by every mouth that had the opportunity to taste it, and by every ear that heard about it. I watched my mother in amazement cater for weddings, birthday parties, baby showers, bridal showers, corporate functions and family gatherings.

Just imagine, my mother created all these savory dishes not in a commercial or commissary kitchen, but in the kitchen that was in our very home.  Everything was made with fresh ingredients, homemade, authentic, made from scratch, by memory, and most of all love.

Now fast forward, here I am following right in her footsteps. My name is Christa Barnett and I’m the founder, owner, and creative mind behind Aunt B’s Savory Soul. I would say that I’m a self-taught cook, but I had the greatest teacher in my mother.  For as long as I can remember I’ve shared my love language of food with my family and close friends. I find myself cooking some of those very own savory meals that I enjoyed as a child that my mother cooked for me.  I’ve had so many tell me, “Your food is so good; you should share it with others.”  To be honest, I was never ready, but I had to get out of my own way, and just do it.

Aunt B’s Savory Soul is where you will find authentic Southern cuisine that’s traditional, made from scratch and with love.  Our food is so savory good you feel it in your SOUL.  The very same way my mother cooked her food. My mother has always taught me that people eat with their eyes, presentation is everything, and the taste is a bonus.

We specialize in traditional soul food, family style meals, meal prep, and catering. This is just the surface of Aunt B’s Savory Soul, and we are excited for you all to be on this journey with us.

This is all in the image of Bessie L. Steward. A woman that I know as a fighter, survivor, and a conqueror. She leaves a lasting and loving impression with everyone she encounters. Some people may call her, Aunt Bessie, Aunt B, Ms. Bessie, or Ms. B, but all I know her as is “mama.”
